Curwood Castle
Author James Oliver Curwood built this replica of Norman chateau in 1922 as a writing studio. Curwood wrote more than thirty adventure stories, some of which were made into movies, including the 1991 feature, ‘The Bear”. The beautiful castle, situated on a bend of the Shiawassee River, was used by Curwood until his death in 1927. It is now a museum and open to the public on Tuesday-Sunday, 1-5pm.

DeVries Nature Conservancy Carriage & Sleigh Museum
DNC’s 4+ miles of trails take visitors through 136 acres of farmland, forest, restored prairie, and floodplain along the beautiful Shiawassee River – just five minutes from downtown Owosso. Visit us from dawn until dusk year-round for a great place to hike, cross country ski, learn more about Michigan’s natural history, or find a quiet place to commune with nature.

Shiawassee Arts Center
The purpose of the Shiawassee Arts Council is to sponsor and encourage participation and appreciation of the arts in Shiawassee County and its surrounding area.
The council may research, plan, develop and present quality arts and cultural activities that educate, entertain and enhance the quality of life in our community.
SAC envisions a vibrant community where the arts inspire our innovative spirit, celebrate our cultural diversity and encourage community involvement.

Steam Railroading Institute
The Steam Railroading Institute, dedicated to educating the public about steam-era railroad technology, is the product of the Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation Inc. For many years, the MSTRP centered on a single steam locomotive, former Pere Marquette Railway No. 1225. After 1225’s retirement, the locomotive was donated to Michigan State University in 1957 by the C&O Railroad with the help of Forest Akers, Dodge Motors, Vice President and MSU Trustee, who saw it as a real piece of machinery for Engineering students to study. Since the College of Enginnering had no interest, it became part of the MSU Museum Collection.

Shiawassee County Historical Museum
This museum offers collections of written historical material and artifacts relating to the history of the Shiawassee County area. Open every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from mid May through mid September. Organizations, clubs, church groups, or classrooms can schedule a tour of the Museum.
